Homework!!!
Students need to do 30 minutes of ELA AND 30 minutes of math each night. That totals 2.5 hours of ELA, and 2.5 hours of math each week. This will prepare students for the homework load, routines, and responsibility for middle school.
1 hour of the weekly ELA is required to be Boost (adaptive program) through Amplify (students login through Clever). The program will only tell the teacher, not the student, how many minutes they have completed, so they will need to keep track of the time, for which I recommend two 30 minute sessions per week to keep a system. All Boost must be completed by Thursday night in order to be logged for student minutes.
1 hour of the weekly Math is through i-Ready MyPath math (adaptive program). The program will tell students how many on task minutes they completed. Students must turn in their work/notes in order to get credit.
The rest of the ELA and math time is to complete worksheets sent home, Khan Academy, or additional practice found on my website. It shouldn't be too easy, nor too hard, and it should be focused on what the student needs to work on the most in ELA and math. Most kids need to work on writing and building vocabulary for ELA. For math, many students should be doing xtramath facts daily (the program stops after about 6 minutes). If there is a worksheet in your child's folder, they were meant to do it, and it is probably something specific I printed or assigned just to them, as are many of the assignments for math in Google Classroom. If you ever are not sure, students should email me about HW questions. If parents and guardians want to know if their child is completing and turning in their work, they should email me.
