Typically I run through all of 5th grade math by the end of December, all the while sticking with the 5th curriculum pacing. At that time all the kids take the end of year 5th math test. I use the data, along with STAR math results, and other class data and observations to provide the opportunity for students to work on 6th grade math at school. Ability is not the only factor. Each student must be a "self manager". They should not distract others, nor be easily distracted as they will need to be mostly independent while another lesson is going on in the room. Encourage your child to do both the 6th math, and to check in on the current 5th unit skills. Students who are not self managers but interested in 6th math should use the resources to practice the 6th math at home.
