If your child can't remember their Lexile level, they probably remember their book color or colors. This is how I color code the books in my classroom. You can also text me through Remind, and I am happy to supply you with your child's Lexile zone...or your child can email me!
Students who read books that are too easy or too hard, aren't going to make proper growth in reading. Students should know most, but not all the words on a page. Their vocabulary grows as they read new words in context and infer the meaning. Enjoying reading helps kids learn vocabulary without studying!
The target for end of the year 4th grade is 740L-940L.
The target for end of the year 5th grade is 830L-1010L
The farther below grade level the child's Lexile zone, it is even more important to read and respond to a variety of reading material in their Lexile zone, especially at home, not just at school. If your child is 1000L or higher, there isn't the same sense of urgency to only read books in their zone when at home. At school, in the classroom, in order to justify silent read to self, students must be reading material in their Lexile zone that will support them making growth as readers.
